KAMLOOPS — A 58 year old Chase man is facing charges after a rifle he was carrying accidentally fired and injured a woman in the shoulder.

Chase RCMP Cpl. Scott Linklater says the incident occurred on Oct. 15 in the Adams Lake area.

"The man stumbled causing the rifle to fire, striking a woman in the shoulder," he says. "The man was arrested for charges including possessing a firearm without a licence and careless use of a firearm. He was later released on a promise to appear in court."

Luckily, Linklater says the woman is okay.

"She's doing good. The wound was more superficial but it could have been a lot more serious if it (the gun) was aimed in another direction."

Surprisingly, he says cases such as these are not that unusual.

"I'd like to say that's the case but it does happen occasionally so we'd like to remind gun owners to be careful."
