Single gender Crown of Curling begins today

KAMLOOPS --- Three Kamloops rinks will be in the dash for cash whent the Crown of Curling begins today at the Kamloops Curling Centre.

Team skipped by Karla Thompson, Corryn Brown and Lori Olsen are among the 15 competing for $12,000 prize money.

For the Thompson rink it will be a warmup for next month's Olympic pre-trials in PEI.

Two of the 14 rinks there will qualify for the Olympic trials in Ottawa in December.

This years Crown of Curling features only one international rink, from China.

For the first time in its 44 year history there will be no male component in the Crown.

Organizers were unable to come up with a minimum 12 rinks for a men's draw
