KAMLOOPS — The 12th annual Power of Being a Girl conference took place in Kamloops Wednesday (Oct. 18).

Girls aged 12-14 gathered for the one-day conference, participating in a variety of workshops designed to equip and empower girls to take on life’s challenges.

“The conference is planned by girls, for girls,” said event coordinator Hope Mikal, “and it’s about empowerment, engagement and education on topics that you might not find in the everyday school system. So, things like gender, and learning about that, and how to deal with peer pressure, and how to say no to drugs, and all these different kinds of things are talked about here today.”

Between workshops the girls enjoyed entertainment and activities in the Tournament Capital Centre gym.
