KAMLOOPS — A female is in police custody after a loaded rifle and ammunition was seized near Williams Lake.

On Oct. 13 at around 7 p.m., Mounties targeted and stopped "a known subject" near Williams Lake. The search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of a loaded SKS rifle and multiple 20 round plus magazines.

"The suspect is a known local female from the Williams Lake area and the name is not being released pending charges being approved by Crown Counsel," says Cst. Andrew Waters of the Williams Lake RCMP. "The suspect was released and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 14, 2018."

He says the investigation is continuing and remains in its early stages.

"Removing this type of firearm and prohibited device from an unlawful possession is just one example of preventing potential violence by our officers," adds Waters.
