KAMLOOPS, B.C. —Mounties issued 27 tickets for distracted driving (cell phones) and another 51 for failing to wear a seatbelt during a two-day combined operation this week in Kamloops and Merritt.

In addition to the tickets, 10 warnings were issued and another 14 charges were made under the Motor Vehicle Act. Officers from Ashcroft and Clearwater were also involved in the joint operation.

The operation was conducted by Central Interior Traffic Services with the Integrated Road Safety Unit and follows an ICBC education campaign last week on Tranquille Road.

Kamloops RCMP Cpl. J.R. Michaud says distracted driving has become “a priority for traffic officers” in this region and notes they will continue to “target this dangerous habit throughout the year.”
