Former Surrey Mayor may be first to announce for Liberal leadership

SURREY —    Former Surrey mayor Dianne Watts could be the first politician to jump into the race for the B-C Liberal leadership.

Watts, now a member of Parliament for South Surrey-White Rock, has sent an email to supporters, calling them to an announcement Sunday in Surrey — and it’s expected she will make her intentions known.

Former Liberal cabinet minister Andrew Wilkinson has said he could make an announcement Monday.

Leadership of the B-C Liberal party became vacant when former premier Christy Clark officially stepped down in early August after her government lost a confidence vote in the legislature — and interim Leader Rich Coleman has said at least seven people could vie for the job. One of those considering running is Kamloops-South Thompson MLA Todd Stone.
