KAMLOOPS — The rain didn’t dampen spirits and support at this year’s ‘Parkinson SuperWalk’ through Riverside Park Saturday morning.

Around 10 SuperWalks take place in B.C every year, with hundreds held coast-to-coast.

Money from the national event goes towards funding research to one day find a cure for the progressive movement disorder.

Ruth Conrad, Committee Member for Kamloops SuperWalk and member of the Parkinson’s Awareness Group in Kamloops, says the annual SuperWalk boosts support for those living with the disorder.

“It makes us more visible in society, ” said Conrad. “Sometimes you see someone that’s walking slowly or walking unevenly and you don’t know what the problem is. Events like these help people have a better idea of what other movement disorders there are out there and how they can affect you.”

Money from the Kamloops walk goes towards hosting clinics focused on improving swallowing, speaking, and other difficulties people with Parkinsons can face.

Estimates show this year’s event brought in close to to $26-thousand.
