KAMLOOPS — The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure is urging the public to avoid using the backcountry over the long weekend.

Officials say the wildfire risk remains extremely dangerous in the Cariboo, Kamloops and Southeast Fire Centre regions.

The public is asked to exercise caution in those areas and avoid if at all possible.

Visitors currently camping and using recreation sites in the Cariboo, Kamloops and Southeast fire centres are also being encouraged to leave.
