KAMLOOPS — A&W is taking on Multiple Sclerosis one burger at a time.

Burgers to Beat MS is one of the biggest fundraisers for the MS Society of Canada. Two dollars from every teen burger purchases at A&W today (Aug 24) will help people living with the debilitating disease.

This year the MS Society is hoping to raise $2 million nation wide through the fundraiser.

“Money that comes in from today obviously goes to support research,” said Jennifer Harbaruk, senior development coordinator with The MS Society. “The MS Society champions the biggest amount of research for MS in Canada. We also use it to support those people who are living with MS. We assist them with needs that they have in their home: wheelchairs, assistance in that way, assistance with drugs that they take to control their systems. It really makes a huge difference and impact locally.”

A&W locations across the city are participating in Burgers to Beat MS until closing.

It’s an exciting day for restaurant staff, who get to witness the generosity of Kamloops citizen first hand.

“We had a lady come in and she ended up buying ten burgers, teen burgers, for complete strangers because her husband’s been diagnosed with MS and dealing with all that,” said employee Koralee Debeuckelaere. “So, it touched her and she was really excited to come in and support and give everybody else some free teen burgers.”
