KAMLOOPS — Good news for residents of the Skeechestn Indian Band today.

Wildfire evacuees forced out August 4th by the Elephant Hill wildfire can return home at noon today.

Chief Ron Ignace, who, with many others from the band, remained behind to help patrol the fire zone, says there's a tremendous sense of relief that the order has been lifted.

Ignace says they were extremely fortunate that no homes were destroyed, though the fire did come close.

Other nearby areas, though, are still on evacuation order and/or alert as the fire continues to burn largely uncontained.
