WolfPack men’s soccer remains undefeated in pre-season

KAMLOOPS —  The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack  kicked off a three match tour of the Pacific Northwest on Thursday (Aug 17) with a game against the Evergreen State University Geoducks in Olympia Washington.

The ‘Pack moved to 1-0-4 in exhibition following a 1-1 tie. The teams played two extra periods.

SYNOPSIS

The teams were scoreless after the first half.  TRU opened the scoring in the 76th minute when Jason Staiger (4th year, forward, Agassiz, BC) scored as he followed a shot off the crossbar.

Evergreen College tied things up a minute and a half later as Jorge Villegas cashed in on a 10 yard shot in front after a layoff.  That goal was given up by rookie keeper Alex Ram (Leiceister, England)

The WolfPack had 22 shots in the four periods:  five in the first, nine in the second, five in the first overtime and three in the second overtime compared to Evergreens 3 shots (two came in the second half).

Thompson Rivers had 13 corner kicks in the match compared to two for the Geoducks.

Justin Donaldson (3rd year, midfield, Kamloops, BC), Ryan Glanville (5th year, forward, Williams Lake, BC)  2 scoring opportunities.   Glanville had five shots on goal.  Colton Walker had three.  Donaldson, James Fraser (1st year, striker, Penticton, BC), Staiger and Tony Paiero (1st year, defender, North Vancouver, BC) each had two shots on goal.

UP NEXT:

The WolfPack will continue their tour meeting the Portland Timbers U-18 team on Saturday (August 20th).  They will conclude their exhibition season and the tour with a match on Monday (August 22) versus the Concordia University Cavaliers (NCAA Div II). The ‘Pack play Their Canada West season opener is Friday, August 25th in Prince George, BC against the Timberwolves.  

The ‘Pack’s home opener is Saturday, September 2nd at Hillside Stadium when the University of Victoria Vikes come to town. It’s a 2 pm start time.
