KAMLOOPS — Police investigators are looking into why a pickup truck flew over a ditch and onto an Aberdeen-area highway this afternoon.

At about 2:15, the truck left the Petro Canada station at Rogers Way and Highway 5A by plowing through a ditch, hitting some trees and then launching onto the travel lanes of the highway.

Cpl. Jodi Shelkie of Kamloops RCMP says the driver has been taken to Royal Inland Hospital with a head injury, and it's unclear what caused him to take that route.

"We're considering both possibilities: that is was a medical emergency that caused him to accelerate out of the gas station, or the other possibility is that he was impaired. So we're looking into both of them," said Shelkie.

The driver was the only person in the pickup truck and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
