KAMLOOPS — UPDATED —  It wasn't your average find.

Kamloops RCMP Staff Sgt. Edward Preto says a nearby resident found what appeared to be a grenade at the corner of Grandview Terrace and West Columbia Street Sunday morning.

Preto said it could be a military smoke grenade.

Police had to  treat it as a live ordnance and  cordoned off the area.

The E division RCMP Demolition Unit in Vancouver was contacted and came up to secure the device late Sunday afternoon.

RCMP say Grandview Terrace was cordoned off for several hours until the demolition crew arrived. It was reopened last night. .

Preto says police want to thank the public for their patience while the threat was being contained.
