QUESNEL —   A new wildfire evacuation order is affecting nearly a thousand people in B-C’s Interior.

Al Richmond, head of the Cariboo Regional District, says 900 people have been ordered to leave their homes thanks to a 60-square kilometre fire that is only 20 per cent contained.

Richmond says the blaze is especially dangerous because it could hit a nearby highway and cut off people’s escape routes.

There were 148 fire burning in the province as of Thursday.
