Warning to smokers from Kamloops Fire and Rescue

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Fire and Rescue has issued a plea to smokers to take extra caution with cigarettes and smoking materials after a discarded cigarette butt was found near the point of origin of a grass fire on Rose Hill Road earlier this week.

Assistant Fire Chief Steve Robinson says the tinder dry conditions of the grasslands means that a grassfire started for any reason could have disastrous consequences.

The minimum fine for improperly discarding a cigarette is $500, and it could be a lot higher depending on circumstances.
