KAMLOOPS — With so many people leaving their homes and properties in a hurry, supplies for displaced pets have become just as critical as supplies for people.

While donations from many suppliers and individuals have been coming in, there’s always a need for more.

Bonnie McBride of the Four Paws Food Bank in Kamloops says “our volunteers have been working non-stop since July 9th, helping every type of pet- dogs, cats, and small animals.”

Today, major pet retailer Pet Valu donated $100,000 worth of products to help animals affected by the fires.

The donation, which includes litter, litter pans, dog and cat food and crates, was given to Four Paws in Kamloops, and the  Prince George Humane Society.

Pet Valu has two stores in 100 Mile House, and two in Williams Lake, both of which have been affected by the recent wildfires. The company also operates Bosley’s by Pet Valu in the City View Shopping Centre in Kamloops.

Pet Valu CEO Tom McNeely says “this donation will hopefully give pet owners some peace of mind knowing they can keep their pets safe and comfortable while they’re away from their homes.”

McBride added “this donation had made an enormous difference. We can now help all the pet owners who come to us.”

The donation comes as B.C. has extended the state of emergency by two weeks, and around 40,000 people are still under evacuation  order.
