VERNON — Some relief this morning for hundreds of Lake Country residents forced out of their homes or placed on evacuation alert because of the fire in Okanagan Centre.

The Central Okaganan Regional District last evening rescinded the order and alerts for all but 69 homes.

The order is still up for several areas within wildfires which are still active and  being fought by ground crews.

Eight homes  were destroyed.

Firefighters from all over the central of north Okanagan descended on Lake Country Saturday afternoon when the human-caused wildfire broke out north of McKinley Landing.

Air support Saturday from the BC Wildfire service was instrumental in helping to knock it down and lay a retardant guard around 88 per cent of it.

Ground teams cut a 55 per cent hand guard around the fire.
