KAMLOOPS — The Minister of National Defence will be arriving in Kamloops Friday to survey the wildfire situation.

The federal government has been assisting the province fight the wildfires that triggered a province wide state of emergency last Friday.

The Canadian Military has made several large aircraft available in case of a large-scale evacuation.

Those aircraft have been positioned throughout the province.

Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan is expected to meet fire crews and evacuees when he arrives in the city Friday.

"I'm sure he will want to take a quick look inside the reception centre," said the Minister responsible for Emergency Management BC, Todd Stone, "and talk to some of the evacuees, the folks most impacted, probably have a chat with the folks at the Provincial Operations Centre, the Provincial Wildfire Coordination Centre, and perhaps have a conversation with his military assets which are here in Kamloops, providing us with terrific assistance."

Wind, no rain forecast for the weekend
