New Mainstreet poll shows stronger support for B.C. Liberals

VANCOUVER —  If the Liberals are toppled this afternoon, as expected, and if Lieutenant-Governor Judith Guichon decides to go back to the polls instead of allowing the NDP-Green coalition to govern, the Liberals will likely be jumping for joy. 

That’s because a new poll shows a big jump in Liberal support, even in the NDP strongholds in the Lower Mainland. 

Pollsters say it’s a significant change in support.

The poll done by Mainstreet Research for Postmedia News, conducted earlier this week, shows support for the Liberals is up 7 percent from a poll just after the election.

It sits at 45 percent, compared to 34 percent for the NDP and 17 percent for the Greens.

And more importantly, the poll shows 43 percent of those surveyed in Greater Vancouver support or are leaning Liberal, compared to 36 percent just after the election. 

The NDP and Greens are expected to combine to win a non-confidence vote in the government late this afternoon, after which time the Lieutenant-Governor will have to decide where we go next.
