Defence policy review expected to advocate for more military spending

OTTAWA —  On the heels of the foreign affairs minister’s call for “hard power,” Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan will announce the government’s defence policy review today.

    Sajjan is expected to make the case for billions of dollars in new military spending.

    Yesterday, Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland told Parliament the government’s new foreign policy will involve spending on “hard power” military capability because Canada can’t rely on the U-S.
