KAMLOOPS — Work to upgrade the Tournament Capital Center’s volleyball and basketball courts is now underway.

Construction crews began taking apart the north basketball court earlier this week.

Jeff Putnam says crews will spend the next three weeks replacing the current flooring with hardwood flooring.

“On the north court area they had to ake a small bobcat and scrape up the existing rubber floor,” said Putnam. “Once they did that they had to remove that material and start cutting the existing concrete in sections. Once that’s complete they’re going to repour a cement base and set the new hardwood floor.”

Once the flooring is completed, work will begin on installing a ‘mondo’ track surface.

A grant from the ‘Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program’ will help pay for the $1.5 million project.

“The Federal Government, through the Canada 150 program, have donated $500-thousand, so a third of the project is being paid,” added Putnam. “It’s nice to see they recognize the facility as an economic driver.”

Track replacement is scheduled to start at the end of June and the field house will be closed until mid-September.
