North Shore bar fight turns ugly

KAMLOOPS — Police say a dust-up inside a North Shore drinking establishment last night was not your average bar fight.

Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says the brawl inside The Duchess began when a suspect assaulted another man by punching them and hitting him with a beer bottle.

Shelkie notes the suspect then showed what appeared to be a handgun.

She says when officers arrived, the two men had left, but the suspect was found not far away, and investigators found a small, silver replica pistol nearby.

“Police located the suspect a few blocks away and saw him throw something to the ground before they approached him. After the male was arrested, the area was searched and a small silver replica pistol was recovered,” stated Shelkie.

Shelkie notes bar fights are not uncommon, but this was different.

“Fights do occur at drinking establishments. In this case, one man hit the other with a beer bottle, which is assault with a weapon, and then also used what appeared to be a handgun in a threatening manner. It takes it to a whole other level.”

A 24 year old man is facing charges of breach of probation, using a firearm in the commission of an offence and assault with a weapon.
