RCMP seek Good Samaritan in relation to shooting investigation

KAMLOOPS — RCMP investigators are looking to identify a Good Samaritan as they try to piece together an early morning shooting in Kamloops.

Police say between 6:15 and 6:45 a.m., the driver of a pickup truck picked up two men in the downtown area and brought them to the Royal Inland Hospital emergency department.

One of the two was suffering from a gunshot wound.

Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says the shooting victim is now medically sedated, and isn’t able to help investigators.

Shelkie says that’s why they want to speak to the driver.

“The citizen is described as a caucasian male who is middle-aged and was driving a brown truck,” said Shelkie. “He picked up the two men in the downtown area, said he was on his way to work, and took them to the hospital.”

Shelkie notes the driver may have thought he was simply doing a good deed for someone in need of medical care.

“We’re not even sure that the driver knew that the man had been shot when he picked him up. It may not have been obvious that the man had been shot. He did look like he was ill, and the other man who was with the man who received the gunshot wound had flagged down (the driver) and asked him for a ride.”

Anyone with information on the driver or the shooting is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP at (250) 828-3000 or Kamloops Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
