Jackie Tegart (Liberal) elected in Fraser-Nicola

MERRITT, B.C. — BC Liberal Jackie Tegart has held off a stiff challenge to retake Fraser-Nicola.

Former longtime NDP MLA Harry Lali lost to the upstart Tegart in 2013, but returned to battle her again in this election.

Tegart was heavily criticized for her role in the Sunshine Valley biosolids saga during the past term, and it was expected she might have been vulnerable.

Lali led in early polling, but Tegart pulled ahead and grew her margin as the night wore on.
