KAMLOOPS — McHappy Day organizers say the 24th annual event yesterday was a big success.

Local McDonald's restaurants raised a total of $62,544.

Normally, proceeds go to a specifically local initiative, but this year proceeds will go to Ronald McDonald House in Vancouver.

Community Relations Representative Angela Seymour says that is an important facility for local residents.

"The number is 111 families from Kamloops, and 14 from Merritt (who have stayed at Ronald McDonald House in recent years)," said Seymour. "Now the journey for those families is just going to be a little bit easier, and that's something that each and every one of us can be proud about."

Seymour notes this year's total fell short of what was raised last year, but McDonald's is still extremely grateful to its customers, as well as those who volunteered for the event.
