KAMLOOPS —  RCMP had to close down a section of roadway in Valleyview yesterday afternoon while they dealt with a distraught man with a knife.

Around 4:00 PM, Staff Sergeant Robert Daly says police were called to the Frontage Road and Valleyview Drive after a man with a knife started threatening himself, and later police.

The 42-year old man was extremely agitated, according to Daly, and police closed down the area for everyone's safety.

A crisis negotiator was brought in, and the man was ultimately taken into custody without any injuries.

He was taken to Royal Inland for assessment and treatment.

No indication at this time what might have precipitated the incident.
