Sikh community comes together for Vaisakhi celebration

KAMLOOPS — The Sikh community came together to celebrate Vaisakhi in Kamloops Saturday afternoon.

Vaisakhi is a special celebration for those of the Sikh religion. 

It commemorates the coronation of the tenth guru of Sikhism, Guru Gobind Singh, as well as marks the solar new year, and celebrates the spring harvest. 

Saturday's events at the Sikh Cultural Centre various music performances as well a large buffet of traditional food.

Attendees also took part in the traditional ceremony of washing the Vaisakhi flagpole in yoghurt and milk.
