ASHCROFT — Kamloops Search and Rescue responded to a call of a pickup truck completely submerged in the Thompson River just south of Ashcroft Saturday afternoon.

Search Manager Alan Hobler says KSR received report of the crash 15 kilometres south of the city at around 2 p.m.

Ashcroft RCMP and Ashcroft Fire Rescue were also called out, with river conditions making it difficult for crews to get close to the vehicle.

“The current was quite strong and the water was quite murky that we just couldn’t tell if there was someone in the vehicle or not,” said Hobler.  “We also we weren’t able to secure the vehicle enough to be able to tow it out with a tow truck. So we stood down last night just shortly before dark before turning it over to the RCMP.”
