CRANBROOK, B.C. — The Kootenay Ice have been sold --- pending approval of Western Hockey League governors.

The Chynoweth family has sold the ice to Winnipeg businessman Greg Fettes and hockey executive Matt Cockell.

Cockell will be moving to Cranbrook to take over as president and general manager of the ice.

He's a former Western League player who has over 17 years experience working with Hockey Canada and most recently with True North Sports, owners of the NHL Winnipeg Jets.

The Ice, operating out of one of the smallest cities in the Western League, have fallen on hard times with dwindling attendance and wins.
