Kamloops wins international sport award

KAMLOOPS — The hosting committee of the World Womens Hockey Championship played in Kamloops a year ago has been recognized with a sports tourism award.

The award is presented by the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance, and the 2016 IIHF World Womens Hockey Championship was named the International Sport Event of the Year in Ottawa today (March 21).

Sean Smith from the City of Kamloops accepted the award which is shared by the City of Kamloops and Hockey Canada.

The local committee was co-chaired by Jon Pankuch and Norm Daley, and included co-ordinators Sean Pitts and Pat O'Donovan, along with hundreds of volunteers.

Hockey Canada's Riley Wiwchar was the event general manager.
