Cougars beat Blazers 3-1

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers lost 3-1 in their final regular season game on home ice on Friday night. 

The Cougars scored the game’s first goal late in the first period. Kody McDonald coralled his own rebound to tally his 17th of the season and give the Cougars a 1-0 lead through the first period.

Jesse Gabrielle scored twice for the Cougars in the second period to open up a 3-0 lead as he was set up nicely by Nikita Popugaev on both goals. 

The Blazers would get one back in the second period as Nic Holowko scored his seventh goal to cut the lead to 3-1 through two periods. 

In the third period, the Blazers had a late push but did not score in a 3-1 loss to the Cougars.

Connor Ingram stopped 35 shots in the loss and Ty Edmonds turned aside 24 of 25 shots. The Blazers were 0-for-4 on the power play, while the Cougars were 0-for-2.

These two teams will meet Saturday night in Prince George.
