KAMLOOPS — An Ontario man is safe and warm after he was the subject of a night-long search near Monte Lake.

Alan Hobler of Kamloops Search and Rescue says the search was launched at about 12:30 a.m.

The man, in his 50s, had gone for a walk on his son’s acreage, and had become lost.

Hobler says volunteers conducted an exhaustive search, but the man eventually turned up along Highway 97 at about 8:00 a.m.

“We brought in our drone team, and the team searched all night. Eventually around 8 o’clock this morning he showed up on the highway and flagged down a passing car,” said Hobler.

“Certainly this guy wasn’t prepared for an adventure like that. Even if you think you are going for a little walk, always be prepared and bring extra warm clothing. Be prepared for something that might be a little bit more than what you planned for.”

Hobler adds the man was cold and wet, but otherwise okay.

“We were close, I think he was just a little bit ahead of us, and he said he could see the drones for quite a while as well. The drones were pretty close to him, but not close enough to find him.”
