KAMLOOPS — We'll likely find out more today about a hazardous materials incident at the Kamloops Courthouse late yesterday afternoon.

The hazmat team was called out after an apparent altercation between Sheriff's staff and a prisoner in the area near the unloading bays.

During the incident, it's believed a narcotic of some sort, possibly an opioid, was released into the air, contaminating several staff and prisoners.

5 or 6 people were taken to hospital for decontamination.

One female was taken away in handcuffs, but at this point, it's not believed she was being arrested, but simply taken away from the scene.

Kamloops Fire and Rescue, and RCMP assisted the Hazmat crews and Sheriff's officials while the situation was dealt with.

Apparently, there were no serious injuries, or drug reactions, and that the decontamination was carried out as a precaution.
