KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers won their 40th game of the season as they routed the Victoria Royals 6-2 on home ice on Friday night.

The Blazers scored two goals in each period as Garrett Pilon and Nic Holowko had first period goals, Pilon with his 20th and Holowko with his sixth. The Blazers led 2-0 after the first period.

Erik Miller and Rudolfs Balcers added goals in the second period to build up a 4-0 lead. The Royals responded with a late powerplay goal to make it a 4-1 Blazers lead through two periods.

The third period was eventful. In total, eight fighting majors were handed out between the two teams. The Blazers would give up an early goal, but Nick Chyzowski and Quinn Benjafield both scored to make it a 6-2 final over the Royals.

With the win, the Blazers improve to 40-23-2-4 and win 40 games in a season for the first time since 2012-13.
