KAMLOOPS — The state-of-the-art ‘Ken Lepin Theatre’ is officially open at Royal Inland Hospital.

Well-known Kamloops philanthropists Ken and Maureen Lepin, Health Minister Terry Lake and Interior Health staff gathered at Royal Inland hospital Friday morning to celebrate the official opening of the $1 million conference room, located in the Clinical Services Building.

The room is equipped with the latest video technology, allowing doctors and staff to hold large-scale meetings with local staff and workers in other cities.

The project is the latest the Lepins have contributed to towards the hospital.

“This is a marvelous facility to have,” said Lepin. “People don’t realize there’s not a lot of money for a lot of these things. If people don’t come forward and buy these pieces of equipment, we won’t have them. They have them in Kelowna and now we have them in Kamloops. I live here, my friends live here, it’s nice to have here in case something happens to us.”

Supporters of the hospitals ‘Save a Seat’ campaign, which provides health education programs, were recognized with individual plaques throughout the theatre.

With the theatre set to be up-and-running in the next week or so, Interior Health staff say the use of the space will go beyond video-conferencing.

“We hope to see medical conferences come to Kamloops now,” said Alisa Coquet, “Director of Donations for the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation. “We didn’t have lecture-style space here prior to this, our biggest meeting room held about 60 people, so this is about double that capacity. Nowe we have an opportunity to have bigger conferences, as well meetings, lectures, and a space open to the public.”
