Blazers beat Royals 5-2

KAMLOOPS — Rudolfs Balcers scored his 36th and 37th goals of the season in a 5-2 win over the Victoria Royals on Wednesday night at home.

The Royals opened the scoring 1:37 into the game as Matthew Phillips scored his 47th goal of the season for a 1-0 lead. 

Ethan Price made it 2-0 on a breakaway, but the Blazers replied 16 seconds later on a great effort from Joe Gatenby to trail 2-1 after the first period. 

The Blazers had a great second period, and finally tied the game up with 3:27 left in the period. Nick Chyzowski drove to the net and Rudolfs Balcers was there to clean it up to make it 2-2 through two periods. 

Collin Shirley gave the Blazers the lead 1:03 into the second period on a rebound for a 3-2 lead. 

Quinn Benjafield added a power play marker and Balcers scored another to make it a 5-2 final for the Blazers. 

The Blazers had a big night on the shot clock as they fired a season high 50 shots on goal. Connor Ingram stopped 27 of 29 shots for his 80th career win which is tied for 4th in franchise history. 

The win improves the Blazers record to 39-23-2-4 on the season. 

These two teams will meet again on Friday night at the Sandman Centre. Game time is 7:00pm.
