WolfPack place three on CW women’s volleyball all-star teams

KAMLOOPS — A fifth year veteran and two rookies from the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack women’s volleyball team have been named to the 2016-17 Canada West all-star team.
Outside hitter Iuliia Pakhomenko (5th year, Donetsk, Ukraine) has been named to the Canada West first all-star team for a third straight time.
While setter Abby Spratt (Calgary, AB) and outside hitter Mikayla Funk (South Surrey, BC) were both named to the Canada West rookie all-star squad.
Pakhomenko led the Canada West in kills (387) and kills per set (4.65). She was also fourth in hitting percent (.281). She played 23 of the WolfPack’s 24 league matches and appeared in 82 sets.
“Obviously Iuliia had a great season, “said WolfPack head coach Chad Grimm. “It is nice to see her get recognized for that.
Spratt was third in the Canada West in assists per set (9.18). She had 762 ass9sts and 31 service aces while dressing for 23 matches. Funk dressed for 22 matches and played in 74 sets garnering 100 kills, 11 assists and 20 service aces.
“ Both Abby and Mikayla have put in a lot of minutes for us and did a great job as rookies coming in,” Grimm added. “ They put up some big numbers cracking the line up on a competitive team. I think when you look at the rookie class, both Abby and Mikayla deserve to be there based on the amount of time they saw the floor and the success of the team. It is definitely deserved.”
