KAMLOOPS — The Stk’emlúpsemc te Secwépemc Nation, known as the SSN, has voted against the proposed KGHM Ajax mine project.

After completing its own environmental review of the project, Chief Fred Seymour said it does not make sense to sacrifice its nations land in and around Jacko lack for a project that will only span 20 – 25 years.

“There was a whole lot of work put into the decision,” said Chief Fred Seymour. “The panel is standing here today saying this is a sacred site and it needs to be protected. It is our responsibility to be stewards of our land.”

The provincial government’s assessment of the mine, proposed to be built near Kamloops, has been suspended since last May
