Blazers clinch playoff spot, Sideroff scores record tying OT winner

KAMLOOPS — Deven Sideroff tied a WHL record with his fifth overtime winning goal in a 5-4 win over the Seattle Thunderbirds on Wednesday night. 

With the win, the Blazers clinched a playoff spot and improved to 38-21-2-4 on the season.

The Blazers scored two goals less than a minute apart in the first period. Garrett Pilon and Luc Smith both tallied to give the Blazers a 2-0 lead. 

The Thunderbirds made it 2-1 as Ryan Gropp tipped a shot from Austin Strand as the Blazers led 2-1 through the first period. 

Ryan Gropp tied the game up late in the second period. He scored off the rush to make it 2-2 through two periods. 

Keegan Kolesar gave the Blazers the lead early in the third period as the Thunderbirds led 3-2. 

Dallas Valentine tied the game up just over two minutes after the Thunderbirds took the lead. 

The Blazers took the lead as Deven Sideroff scored his 34th of the season to make it 4-3 Blazers. 

Kolesar tied the game with 12.4 seconds to go on a great feed from Nolan Volcan. 

Sideroff ended the game 1:52 into overtime for his second goal of the game and a 5-4 final for the Blazers. 

The Blazers will now hit the road for two games in Prince George this weekend.
