KAMLOOPS — A man charged with importing or distributing child pornography and possession of child pornography is expected to plead guilty.

Al Kirkwood is the former fire chief of Barriere, and he was also publisher of the North Thompson Star Journal and the Clearwater Times.

His lawyer was in court today, and following that appearance, a date of May 8th has been set for an intended guilty plea.

Investigation into Kirkwood's activities began last year and police searched his home and offices.

Kirkwood was the fire chief in Barriere for more than 20 years, and he resigned suddenly in October.

Kirkwood is in his early 60's.
