KAMLOOPS — It came down to the final minute of play at the Tournament Capital Centre, Saturday night, as the Thompson Rivers University Wolfpack Women’s Basketball team lost a heartbreaker to the University of Calgary Dinos, 63-60.

It didn’t look good for the ‘Pack early on, as Calgary jumped out to an early lead, and pushed the pace in the first half of the game. Down 38-23 at halftime, TRU came out strong in the 3rd, led by Michelle Bos and Leilani Carney, who each had 5 in the quarter.

The Dinos went on a 6-0 run to start the final frame, but the ‘Pack hung in, keeping the game close. With just 58 seconds remaining, and TRU trailing by six, the two teams traded free throws, to make the score 61-55.

After a Wolfpack timeout, Emma Piggin’s offensive rebound on an Audrey Rankin miss turned into a three-point play, as the 3rd year guard drew a foul while hitting a jump shot – Piggin made the free throw, cutting Calgary’s lead to 3.

Calgary’s Erin McIntosh missed two free throws with 25 seconds remaining, which left the door open for TRU – Michelle Bos missed two free throws with 7 seconds left, but Emma Piggin got another offensive board on the 2nd, and hit the lay-up for two of her 7 points, to make it a one-point game, but that’s as close as the Wolfpack women would come, as the Dinos held on for a 63-60 win, and weekend sweep over the ‘Pack. Bos led the ‘Pack with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 4 steals, while Carney had 12 points and 2 assists in 30 minutes.

Saturday’s game was the final home match for the Wolfpack this year, as they head for Regina next weekend to take on the Cougars in their final two games of the 2016-17 season.
