KAMLOOPS —  Police aren't sure what happened late last night near the Peterson Creek Bridge, but a man was treated for minor injuries and his car was destroyed by fire just before midnight.

Police had to close down the highway in both directions for a time while Kamloops Fire and Rescue took care of the fire.

RCMP Sergeant Darren Michels says they got a call regarding a single vehicle accident in the westbound lanes of the Trans Canada near the bridge a few minutes before midnight.

When they got there, a small white car was fully engulfed in flames. Sergeant Michels says the driver was transported to hospital after being treated on the scene, but apparently was not seriously hurt.

Michels says they don't know if there were any witnesses to the accident, and they aren't sure at this point what caused it.

They are looking for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to call them.
