KAMLOOPS —  Police aren’t sure what happened late last night near the Peterson Creek Bridge, but a man was treated for minor injuries and his car was destroyed by fire just before midnight.

Police had to close down the highway in both directions for a time while Kamloops Fire and Rescue took care of the fire.

RCMP Sergeant Darren Michels says they got a call regarding a single vehicle accident in the westbound lanes of the Trans Canada near the bridge a few minutes before midnight.

When they got there, a small white car was fully engulfed in flames. Sergeant Michels says the driver was transported to hospital after being treated on the scene, but apparently was not seriously hurt.
