KAMLOOPS — Thompson Rivers University students without cars of their own now have an additional option for getting around on and off campus.

The university has partnered with the car-sharing service Zipcar to give students access to two vehicles, a Nissan Sentra and Hyundai Elantra.

Student can join for a yearly membership fee of $15, with the cost increasing to $25 after the first year.

“It’s really the simplicity,” said James Gordon of the TRU Sustainability Office, “so if you’re a student, you’re from the other part of the country, or across the world now you’re only paying $20 for the entire year, and then 10 bucks an hour, so if you want to go do a big grocery shop at Costco, or one of the other big stores or you want to go skiing for the day with you and your pals it’s more accessible.”

Non-students will have to pay a higher annual fee of $35, but the membership is valid anywhere in the world where there is a Zipcar service.

While there are only the two vehicles available on campus currently, Zipcar will place more vehicles depending on demand.
