KAMLOOPS — A Barriere man is starting the new year off with a bit more cash in his pockets.

76-year-old retired firefighter, Kelvin Fadear, was the winner of a $1 million prize from the Lotto 6/49 draw on Christmas Eve.

Fadear says he bought his ticket at the Knights Inn in Barriere, and when he went home to check the ticket that very night he found out he was a millionaire.

Fadear adds he has no plans to spend the money on himself.

"No plan, I don't need anything. I'll just give most of the money to the kids - I've got five of them, so that takes care of a million bucks very fast," said Fadear.

Fadear claimed his $1 million prize this afternoon at the Kamloops BCLC office.
