Laneway garbage pickup curbed

KAMLOOPS — At least 200 Kamloops homeowners have a new spot to bring their garbage.

Council has authorized an end to garbage collection in certain laneways in the Sagebrush and McDonald Park areas, meaning those residents will now have to bring their bins to the street.

Public Works and Utilities Director Jen Fretz says the changes are necessary for several reasons.

“Part of it is around safety, so the need for excessive backup movement right now, as well as operating where this is overgrown vegetation, et cetera. The other reason that we are seeking these recommendations is from an efficiency perspective,” said Fretz.
