KAMLOOPS — Longtime Kamloops sportman Andy Clovechok has died.

The 93-year old hockey icon passed away peacefully last night.

Born in Slovakia in 1923, Clovechok and his family moved to Canada when he was five years old.

He was an avid Blazers booster and was on the team’s board of directors for 24 years.

Kamloops Blazers Head Coach Don Hay says Clovechok played an instrumental role in the citie’s hockey community.

“He started the Bert Marshall Andy Clovechok Hockey School on the North Shore which was one of the first hockey schools at that time,”said Hay. “He was also part of the Kamloops Blazers directors when they needed help keeping the franchise in town. He was one of the guys that stepped up. He was just an easy man to talk to and was very friendly to everybody.”

Andy Clovechok is a member of the Alberta, B.C. and Kamloops Sports Halls of Fame.

Memorial arrangements are pending.
