Women’s WolfPack volleyball sweep MacEwan University

EDMONTON, A.B — The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack kicked off their final road swing before Christmas break on a strong note.

USport and Canada West player of the year Iullia Pakhomenko was on fire with 18 kills in a straight-set TRU victory against MacEwan University in Edmonton.

The scores were 25-21,25-21,25-20.

“A win on the road is important and to take care of business 3-0 is great for the group,” said TRU Head Coach Chad Grimm. “We can clean up some things. It wasn’t always crisp volleyball. But at the end of the day we got the job done and that is what is important.”

The women take on MacEwan University again tonight at 5pm.

Meanwhile, in men’s volleyball, TRU lost 3-1 (28-26 19-25 25-22 25-22) to MacEwan University in Edmonton Friday.

TRU was led by Randy Grundmann who had 24 kills in 44 chances with a service ace, 12 digs and a block assist. 

Kai Hesthammer was the main offensive force for MacEwan with 10 kills in 28 opportunities with a service ace, 10 digs, a solo block and a block assist.

The WolfPack and Griffins play again Saturday in Edmonton.
