Blazers win 6-5 in Tri-City

KAMLOOPS —  Quinn Benjafield had two goals and an assist and Collin Shirley added a goal and two assists as the Blazers won 6-5 in Tri-City on Friday night.

The Blazers had a good first period, but the Americans opened the scoring. A turnover left Parker Aucoin in alone and he scored for a 1-0 lead.

The Americans made it 2-0 early in the second period. Kyle Olson found a loose puck at the side of the goal and potted his seventh of the season.

The Blazers didn’t panic and scored the game’s next goal. Ondrej Vala’s point shot went top corner on the glove side of goaltender Rylan Parenteau.

Nick Chyzowski tied the game converting off of a great rush 8:46 into the second period.

Carson Focht gave the Americans the lead as he scored on a rebound.

Deven Sideroff tied the game up just over a minute later on an individual rush. He faked a shot before scoring on a wrap around for his 12th of the season to make it 3-3 through two periods.
Quinn Benjafield gave the Blazers their first lead 7:43 into the third period. He picked up a loose puck on a rebound for his fifth goal of the year.

The Americans came right back just over a minute later on a 5-on-3 power play. Tyler Sandhu’s centering pass hit a skate before sneaking by goaltender Dylan Ferguson to make it 4-4.

The Blazers later earned themselves a 5-on-3 power play and Benjafield scored his second of the game after Collin Shirley’s shot rang off the crossbar.

Shirley scored a pivotal goal with 3:47 left to play. Scott Mahovlich made a great play off the rush to Shirley and he scored his 10th goal of the season for a 6-4 lead.

The Americans added a goal with 3.9 seconds left, but the Blazers went on to win 6-5 over the Americans.

The Blazers finished the night 1-for-4 on the power play, while the Americans were 1-for-6. With the win, the Blazers improved their record to 13-10-1-0 on the season.

The Blazers are back at it Saturday night in Spokane.
