OTTAWA —   Transportation and shelter costs are getting most of the blame for the hike in inflation across Canada and in BC.

Statistics Canada says the country’s consumer price index in October was set at 1.5 per cent, up from 1.3 per cent in September, but economists also say the increase was exactly as predicted.

BC’s rate climbed to 2.1 per cent in October from 1.8 per cent the month earlier.

The cost of living was also up in Vancouver, rising three basis points to 2.5 per cent in October, while Victoria’s rate climbed two-tenths of a point to 1.9 per cent from the 1.7 per cent setting in September.
