Blazers lose 4-2 to Cougars in Prince George

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers, who played their fourth game in five nights on Saturday, lost 4-2 in Prince George to the Cougars.

After a scoreless first period, Max Martin opened the scoring 4:40 into the second period. He took advantage of a turnover and snapped a shot by goaltender Dylan Ferguson for a 1-0 lead.

Rudolfs Balcers tied the game 1:10 later on a partial break. He took a pass from Conner McDonald and went in alone to score his 10th goal of the season.

Collin Shirley gave the Blazers the lead while shorthanded late in the period on a breakaway.

The Cougars came back to score on that same power play as Bartek Bison pounded home a rebound to make it 2-2 through two periods.

The Blazers started the third period with a power play, but gave up a shorthanded goal. Jesse Gabrielle snapped home a high shot over the shoulder of Ferguson to make it 3-2 for the Cougars early in the third period.

Fatigue caught up to the Blazers in the final frame as they gave up a late goal to make it a 4-2 final for the Cougars.

The Blazers outshot the Cougars 39-38 on the night. The Blazers were 0-for-4 on the power play, while the Cougars finished the night 1-for-7.

The Blazers finished the busy week with a 2-1-1-0 record. They will now get the week off before hosting home game against the Prince Albert Raiders on Friday, November 11th at 5:00pm and the Prince George Cougars on Saturday, November 12th at 7:00pm.
